Ninety-nine per cent of politicians behave badly and give the rest a bad name! If you need to share files, then upgrade to a supported and patched OS. Sorry if that is NOT the answer you wanted. My assertion that an out of date OS without any security patches is bad is really more than an assumption. He's using it in a networked environment and opens up all sorts of bad things. Yes - there may be allegedly good reasons for sticking with it, but this does not sound like one of them.
Maybe, but you're trying to shoehorn your expertise in Powershell onto a problem where it just doesn't fit. Why he needs to support XP is pretty much irrelevant.. There was a utility written some time ago that can be executed from the command line to do just what your looking for.
